I
thought I had saved those photos online and had prepared them for a previous blog
post, but somehow they got lost into the stack and were never published. Today I was reminded of this trip, in which I had gone to the snowy Parnitha last year and I searched for the post online, which of course was
nowhere to be found. I headed home wondering why I hadn't post this
trip, which was memorable and filled me with energy when I most needed
it and found the trip's photos. But let's take it from the start.
Last
winter was one of the most cold winters in Greece. Lots of snow, lots
of problems and a very cold weather from November until early March. At
early December after a lot of snowy days, there was finally a break and
it was finally Friday when I decided I had too much of this city. I
planned for a short trip heading towards Parnitha mountain and I
realized there was a lot of snow at the top as soon as I reached its
foothills.
I
slowly and carefully drove on top of the mountain and
passed next to the casino as far as I could go with my car with
occasional snow flakes falling at distance. When the road ended,
I turned around and headed back at the previous junction, where I left
my car and continued on foot with only my camera in a snowy country road that
seemed to go for ever. The snow was not falling heavy, so I had more than enough time to continue
walking in the snow until the light would fade.
My
stroll rewarded me with some beautiful scenes and even more beautiful
feelings of calmness and serenity. No sound was heard at far distance as the snow
continued to fall and I went on walking in the snowy country roads which
were forked every once in a while.
I
finally reached a water fountain and had some water to drink and some
rest, as despite the cold and snowy weather I later found out that I had
walked a good 6 kilometers in the snowy, difficult country roads and had another 6 kilometers to walk back to my car when the light would fade away. Not bad for someone who lives his life behind a desk!
After
the fountain, I continued gathering images and walked some more until I
reached a downhill road that seemed to go on for long. The light was
getting dimmer at that time and I knew I had to walk back to my car
before there was less than comfortable light to find my way. Heading
back to my car, the setting sun colored beautifully the clouds resulting
in a stunning sunset between the trees that would take everyone's breath
away.
